Through tear filled eyes, courageous Eve looked heavenward through the green and bountiful trees of Eden and asked “Is there no other way?” Her heart must have been grateful for God’s salvivic plan which would now be put into motion, while also heavy knowing the hardships and opposition she and her posterity would endure. It is poignant and comforting to know that both brave Mother Eve and our Savior each plead with God in this way. Both were willing to do His will, and both wondered aloud if perhaps “this cup may pass”. How many women have asked some form of this question during the trials of life? Is there no other way to experience the joy of childbirth besides bearing the sickness and physical pain of pregnancy and delivery? Is there no other way to shepherd your children safely home and see them grow without the agonizing moments of watching them struggle? Is there no other way to feel deep and soul expanding love for our fellow travelers without also having our hearts broken from time to time? Is there no other way to achieve the glorious finishing touch of the refiner’s fire without actually passing through that fire ourselves? When we look tearfully towards heaven and cry “Is there no other way?” we do not ask in vain, and we need not ask without hope. The deepest distress of our hearts is heard and there has always been a plan for another Way who overcomes all.
